The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry defines special healthcare needs as “any physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional impairment or limiting condition that requires medical management, healthcare intervention, and/or use of specialized services or programs.” Providing comprehensive care for patients with special healthcare needs is an important aspect of the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Whether your child’s condition is congenital, developmental, or the result of disease or trauma, we can provide anticipatory guidance, preventive care, and cavity management as needs arise.

We value the unique qualities of each young child we care for. We strive to ensure optimal oral health, regardless of developmental disability or other healthcare issues. Many special needs children can be at higher risk for gum disease and tooth decay. We will help initiate preventive dental care and educate you and your child on a preventive dental care plan that uses consistent brushing and flossing methods at home and professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, and checkups at our offices.

Dental care for patients with special needs requires specialized knowledge acquired by additional training, as well as increased awareness and attention, adaptation, and accommodative measures beyond routine treatment.
