What to Expect at Your Baby’s First Visit to the Dentist

Nov 16, 2015

If your baby has had their first tooth or has turned one year old (congratulations!), now’s the time to book that very crucial first appointment at Stellar Kids Dentistry in one of our two locations: Mukilteo or Everett. It’s extremely important to have your child’s teeth checked by an oral health professional at an early age.

Baby teeth are extremely important. Our dentists recommend caring for baby teeth as you would adult teeth; instead of extracting a baby tooth that has a cavity, our team recommends that you book an appointment to remove the cavity and fill it.

Baby teeth help your child speak and chew properly. Missing baby teeth may result in poor alignment of permanent teeth so your baby’s oral health is extremely important for oral (and general) health down the road. Don’t neglect it and book an appointment today with your dentist!

We here at Stellar Kids Dentistry recommend brushing your child’s teeth with a soft bristled infant toothbrush. Do not use toothpaste unless recommended by your dentist! Dampen the toothbrush and brush your baby’s teeth right before bed for optimal oral health care.

Your child can begin using fluoride toothpaste at age two or three – just ask your dentist if you’re uncertain. Be sure to monitor your child’s brushing technique and remind them not to swallow their toothpaste.

Reserve an appointment at  Stellar Kids Dentistry if your child’s first tooth has come out or if they’ve just turned one. We look forward to seeing you!
