I have always loved working with children and feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that allows me to combine that passion with dentistry. I believe that every child deserves to feel comfortable, heard, and confident at the dentist. My goal is to create positive dental experiences from an early age and to help children and their families develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. I take a warm, patient-centered approach to care and enjoy getting to know each child and finding ways to make every visit a positive experience.
Bio
Dr. Shelby Cansler is a Seattle-area native who is excited to return home to care for children in her community. She earned her undergraduate degree in Environmental Health from the University of Washington and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. While in dental school, she received the prestigious David B. Law Award, presented to the graduating student demonstrating exceptional promise in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Shelby went on to complete her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Oregon Health & Science University, where she served as Chief Resident. Her advanced training included caring for children of all ages and with a wide range of dental needs, with a particular focus on helping children who may be anxious or apprehensive about dental care. She has also participated in pediatric dental research focused on dental pain in children and the safety and effectiveness of Silver Diamine Fluoride, reinforcing her commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based care.
Throughout her education and training, Dr. Shelby has been passionate about prevention, education, and expanding access to dental care for children. She has provided care and oral health education to underserved communities through Medical Teams International and has taught medical students about pediatric oral health, fluoride, and cavity prevention. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Shelby enjoys traveling, reading, staying active, spending time with family and friends, and especially playing and watching basketball.
